The Wayside Senior Program was incorporated in 1980 as a not-for-profit organization to provide community-based alternatives to the institutionalization for elderly and homebound individuals.
Between 1980 and 1992, Wayside received funds from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and NYS Office for the Aging (SOFA) to support their senior programs. Wayside was awarded contracts by the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA) to sponsor five additional multi-purpose older adult centers and satellites. The Older Adult Centers operates under the mandates of the Older Americans Act, the New York State Community Services for the Elderly Act, Nutrition Services Assistance Program, and the New York City Department of the Aging.
The services we provide to seniors include two nutritious hot meals served five days per week, Information and Referrals, Home Care, Social Security, SSI, Medicaid, Medicare, Benefits assistance, Health Promotion Workshops; Medical Screening, Exercise & Nutrition Classes; Computer Training, Arts & Craft, Music, Counseling, and Transportation. We offer opportunities to volunteer and develop leadership skills by serving as center-wide officers on the Advisory Board and/or Board of Directors.
