Malteser International Americas (MI Americas) is an affiliate of Malteser International, the humanitarian relief agency of the Sovereign Order of Malta, a 900-year lay religious order with a mission to serve the poor and the sick irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or political persuasion. Our work is guided by the belief that every person has the right to live a healthy life with dignity.
What We Do
At Malteser International Americas, we care for the most vulnerable among us by providing aid to people affected by poverty, disease, conflict and disaster throughout North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean. Malteser International is a non-governmental organization with special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council at the United Nations.

Our mission is to:
- Provide relief during major emergencies and forgotten crises, helping communities rebuild and recover;
- Establish and promote primary health care services and contribute to better health through improved nutrition and food security;
- Contribute to better health and dignified living conditions by providing access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene;
- Create and operate social programs which help people secure their livelihoods and earn an income, making them less vulnerable and reducing structural poverty;
- Develop and support initiatives that reduce the risks of disaster, especially at the community level.

Part of a global network with over 140 active projects in over 35 countries, Malteser International Americas is the affiliate of Malteser International in the Western Hemisphere.
Almost 1,000 Malteser International staff members are active in crisis regions around the world. Whether implementing development and humanitarian projects, when disaster strikes, we are on the ground ready to provide urgently needed aid.
