JOB DESCRIPTION:

A Life Skills Coach (LSC) works with and supports individuals with intellectual/ developmental disabilities in the places they live and work. LSC's perform their jobs out in the community.

  • A PARTNER - assisting individuals to lead independent lives, participate in and contribute to the community.
  • A TEACHER - finding creative and fun ways to help individuals learn meaningful skills and provide them with information to make the best choices for themselves.
  • An AMBASSADOR - to the individual’s community, encouraging others to interact with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities as neighbors, friends, and co-workers.
  • An ADVOCATE - supporting individuals to exercise their rights and responsibilities.
  • A SUPPORTER - seeking to understand the likes, dislikes, hopes, and dreams of individuals they support and working with them as they make progress toward their life goals.All of the roles that you play have a common focus on supporting individuals to live the kind of lives they choose. 
The LSC is a Partner, Teacher, Ambassador, Advocate, and Supporter.The job of the LSC carries a unique responsibility.  Unlike a parent, legal guardian, or conservator, the LSC does not have the authority to make important life decisions for individuals they work for and with. Instead, the individuals themselves, with the help of LSC, parents, legal guardians, conservators and service coordinators as appropriate, make decisions about their own lives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Friendly, outgoing and reliable individual
  • Experience working with our client population is preferred, but not required
  • At least 21 years of age or older
  • As 99% of this job is performed out in the community, a reliable vehicle with updated inspection and proof of full insurance coverage
  • Must provide proof of acceptable driving record
