Supervisory Responsibilities: No
FSLA: Exempt, with commission plan to follow.
Purpose: The Sales Development Representative is responsible for growing our customer base and retaining existing business as well as prospecting and selling services to new customers.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Account management to retain and grow existing accounts.
- Track and trace all active orders for current on-time status and proactively contact customers, providing them with shipment status.
- Work closely with the operational staff to ensure customers’ needs and expectations are met.
- Seek alternate solutions with customers in the event of a service deviation, including change of pick up or delivery appointments.
- Record customer complaints regarding freight orders.
- Remedy customer complaints regarding service to maximize customer satisfaction.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
- Perform core-selling activities, including sales call preparation, execution of sales calls and post-call analysis and reporting.
- Prospect leads and perform heavy cold calling (phone, email, site visits) to build pipeline.
- Heavy price and service negotiation with customers.
- Develop and execute field sales business plans to grow revenue.
- Meet or exceed revenue goals.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or transportation field is preferred.
- Knowledge of Lancaster County trucking market a plus
- 3+ years’ experience in the transportation industry with a focus in a sales-oriented position.
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills required.
- Ability to thrive in a “start-up” environment with a high growth potential.
- Strong relationship building skills, negotiating power and ability to multi-task.
- Entrepreneurial spirit.
- Prior experience working in a deadline driven environment.
- MS Office proficient
- TMS Software experience is preferred but not required.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions:
The Transportation Customer Sales Representative is largely a sedentary position in an office environment that uses office equipment, computers, and phones. Visual acuity and occasional lifting of supplies and materials is necessary.
Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
