Khalsa is a small, Montessori charter school located in downtown Phoenix that serves children from 1st to 6th grade. Khalsa is a long-standing charter school provider in Phoenix and is celebrating 28 years in downtown Phoenix! We value diversity and offer a safe place for all children and adults to grow. Khalsa Montessori School seeks individuals interested in working as an elementary after school assistant.
This elementary after school assistant position is part time, Monday - Friday, 2:30 - 6pm in the Khalsa Montessori Elementary Extended Care (EEC) program. Additional hours are available on School Breaks, Early Release & Teacher In Service days. An assistant teacher is responsible for safety protocols (cleaning), monitoring the classroom, ensuring appropriate follow-through of the EEC Coordinator's direction or student's choice of appropriate behavior, maintaining educational materials and keeping the class environment attractive for the students. Other duties include but are not limited to healthy snack preparation, monitoring children during classroom time, playground time, and engaging with the students.
For all applicants, a minimum of six months of experience with elementary aged children is essential. We are looking for individuals with maturity, reliability, high integrity, open mindedness, flexibility, dedication to the well-being of the children, willingness to be a team player, and a "beginner’s mindset".
These physical capabilities are required: ability to stand for long periods of time; frequent bending; pick up and carry 50lbs; able to sprint short distances; ability to easily sit on floor or small children's furniture; exposure to viruses and bacteria expected.
Applicants must be reliable, trustworthy, physically healthy, free of chemical addictions (non-smoking), able to lift 50lbs, move down to the floor to speak with students, have a DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card and negative Tb certification within the last 12 months.
Compensation: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

The mission of the Khalsa Montessori School (KMS) is to:

- Build a partnership of students, families, teachers and administrators who create an environment that lays the foundation for those habits of mind that support happiness and success both in school and in life.
The goals of the Khalsa Montessori School are to:
- Establish in each child a mastery of fundamental skills utilizing concrete Montessori materials that help students gain a complete understanding of basic concepts
- Increase the ability of each child to think critically with reasoning and creative problem solving tasks given throughout the curriculum
- Develop the ability of each child to learn quickly and easily and to effectively apply that knowledge in other situations
- Allow a wide variety of avenues for creative expression for each child within the classroom and special activity classes in all areas of the arts
- Encourage physical development of each child through a wide variety of activities in class and playground, physical education classes, and team training
- Encourage every child to develop independence and a sense of personal meaning and responsibility for themselves, others and our world;
- Develop in each child a deep love of learning and enthusiastic self-motivation
- Build in each child a foundation of self-confidence, and inspire students to realize their highest potential.
