Overview:
The core mission of Southeastern College is to provide targeted educational services that meet community needs. The role of the Simulation Instructor/Lab Coordinator is to engage students, foster learning, role model professionalism, and ultimately produce competently trained students prepared for professional careers.

Business Contributions:
Faculty/Instructional staff are responsible for leveraging their expertise to deliver educational services to students through:
•      Facilitating student engagement

•      Providing simulation experiences based on EBP (Evidence Based Practice) and CJMM (Clinical Judgement Measurement Model)

•      Assessing students and providing development feedback

 Essential Functions:

.     
Prepare Simulation Plans and Materials
•      Creates, sets up and sanitizes props/moulage equipment

•      Develops new simulation scenarios

•      Updates existing simulation scenarios

•      Assist with scheduling of simulation activities with lead instructors

 
Deliver Simulation Scenarios and Debriefing

•      Ensures a professional environment is maintained {punctuality, student dress code and ID badges, no food or drink, no cell phone use, use of appropriate language)
•      Serve as simulation operator by running scenarios with lead instructors
•      Communicates in a positive, professional manner with students and instructors
•      Promotes safety for students and instructors

Evaluation of Simulation Activities

•      Facilitates debriefing activities with instructors focusing on the quality of care provided to the patient as well as opportunities for improvement
•      Completes student simulation evaluations with lead instructor
•      Reports any attendance issues to the Lead Instructor and Program Director
 
 
Job Summary:
     
•      In Collaboration with the Program Director, Coordinates and Manages the Skills lab and simulation center. The individual in this position will assure the effective and efficient operation of the lab, assess and provide for meeting program and student needs, and oversee the operation of high and medium fidelity technology to ensure safe and effective use of the simulation equipment.
   
Job Duties:

•      Develop and implement clinical simulation to meet accreditation standards.
•      Maintains the lab inventory and ensures the safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
•      Works closely with faculty and staff to appropriately integrate lab operations, obtain maximum utilization for the most efficient expenditure, and moderate student costs.
•      Collaborates with appropriate individuals to schedule the use of the simulation lab and nursing skills lab
•      Orients instructors in lab procedures, location and use of materials, and operation of equipment.
•      Assess and organize the orientation, simulation, and skills for clinical instructors and students for clinical sites and skills lab.
•      Attends both campus and nursing faculty department meetings.
 
 
Other Duties

•      Trains faculty in the use of simulation equipment as required
•      Conducts tours or simulation sessions for External individuals or groups
•      Engages in educational activities to maintain simulation proficiency
•      Obtains CHSE {Certification for Healthcare Simulation Educator} as offered by the Society for Simulation in HealthCare (SSH)
•      Maintains RN license as well as BLS/ACLS certification

•      Participates in Pinning Ceremony and Convocation Ceremony
 


Physical Demands

•      The physical demands are those required in a professional office setting and higher education teaching environment: presenting to a classroom of students, demonstrating procedures and techniques, inserting and removing various components of the high fidelity mannikins, and getting to and from appropriate classes and offices.
•      Light: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and carrying objects weighing up to l O pounds; with walking and standing to a significant degree

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

Simulation faculty members are responsible for the delivery of quality education services. This entails engaging students, fostering learning, role modeling professionalism, and ultimately producing competently trained students prepared for professional careers. This includes working with the Dean, Program Coordinators, and other campus faculty to ensure consistent and high-quality delivery of assigned courses.

Below is an inclusive but not exhaustive list of various knowledge, skills and other characteristics that are necessary for effective performance in the Simulation/Experiential Learning Coordinator position

Knowledge:
The Simulation Instructor/Lab Coordinator must have the minimum level of education required and relevant expertise within their specific discipline related to the program or specific courses they teach.

Minimum:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Preferred:
Master of Science in Nursing /or a closely related healthcare field/degree

Minimum:
Basic Life Support Provider (American Heart Association)

Preferred:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association)

Preferred:
Certification as a CHSE (Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator) by the SSH (Society for Simulation in Healthcare)

Faculty must also have knowledge of

•      Academic instruction/course delivery

•      Adult Learning

•      Assisting students to develop clinical judgement skills in preparation for NCLEX NextGen
   
Skills:

•      Classroom/Simulation Lab Management- communicating with and facilitating discussions among a diverse range of non-traditional students
•      Planning - organizing and following a standard simulation delivery plan

Experience:

Experience in an academic environment and particularly in a career college environment is of great importance. Work experience in the following areas is highly valued:
•      Academic teaching (higher education)
•      Experience as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years' experience in providing direct patient care
 •      1 year of Simulation experience
 Age Specific Competency:

Ability to identify age-specific competencies for direct patient care providers within the Simulation scenarios
•      Infants
•      Adolescent
•      Young Adult
•      Middle Adult
•      Older Adult
  Education, Experience, and Training:

The Simulation Instructor/Lab Coordinator delivers education programs that are part of standard academic programs and are responsible for ensuring quality education for students in their course/class and program at the campus level. The coordinator should have at a minimum, the degree required for the specific discipline and have experience and appropriate credentials in their relevant area of academia (see above)

The Coordinator is self-motivated and requires little to no supervision while working as a team member
The Coordinator is able to respond to occasional changes in duties and volume of work
   
Location:
This position is an onsite position located at your campus unless otherwise determined by the Chancellor and/or designee. Any changes must be reviewed by the Campus President/Vice President and all final approvals must come from the Chancellor and/or designee.

This is a part time position that requires weekends availability.
