Assistant General Manager, Marketing

As a senior management member of the London Drugs marketing team, this position is responsible for assisting with the overall management and success of London Drugs’ marketing department.
Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing and Communications, this position is responsible for driving the brand strategy while working with key stakeholders on corporate and retail planning and execution. This includes managing relationships with our interagency partners to develop key campaigns and driving them across all internal and external marketing communications vehicles. The role works to bring the brand framework to life while driving retail goals. The position also has direct responsibilities for driving the growth and strategy for the loyalty program, sponsorships, grand openings, events, community and store support programs with dotted line reporting for other key areas including digital, PR, retail and marketing services.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Builds strategies and provides direction and input on advertising/marketing programs, campaigns and vehicles.
- Responsible for managing and driving the strategy for our loyalty program. Develops compelling campaigns to entice new trial, retention and loyalty.
- Leads a cross-functional team on various marketing initiatives including sponsorships, grand openings, events, community and store support programs.
- Leads the exploration, evaluation and implementation of various MarTech projects, ensuring alignment across all business units including IT, Finance and Ecommerce.
- Supports and leads the research and analytics team with the explicit intention of making data led business decisions.
- Manages agency relationship on campaign development and works with internal creative teams to execute campaigns consistently across all communications vehicles including instore and online.
- Works with agency to make media buy recommendations for various brand and retail initiatives.
- Actively working with VP, Marketing and Communications and other key players on all initiatives including retail/category strategies, digital strategy, PR strategy and media services team.
- Finds effective ways to drive traffic to stores.
- Works with department stakeholders to develop and administer annual advertising/marketing calendar.
- Assists the VP, Marketing and Communications as requested and engages in special projects.
- Create and deliver marketing presentations to various stakeholders in the business, including Executive Committee and Governors, when applicable.
- Hires and liaises with contractors and suppliers for specialized expertise whenever appropriate. Evaluates their deliverables and ensures that expectations are being met.
- Financials and Budget
- Works with key stakeholders to help develop, manage and report on the annual advertising and marketing budget.
- Tracks and reviews all program results, prepares recommendations and implements action plans to continually improve marketing effectiveness and impact.
- Analytical and drives ROI.
Research and interpretation
- Drives consumer insights initiatives including brand tracker analysis and customer segmentation analysis. Is comfortable analyzing and actioning results.
- Analyzes and interprets the effectiveness of marketing programs.
- Sources, manages and assesses the value of secondary research.
- Conducts gap analysis and formulates appropriate strategies and initiatives.
- On an ongoing basis, monitors, reviews and evaluates the competitive landscape to best determine how to stay ahead and keep relevant with respect to London Drugs’ brand and marketing content.
Leadership and Management:
- Train, coach, and develop staff to meet operating and succession planning goals. Give direction of assigned duties.
- Recruit and evaluate employees on a timely basis to meet continual recruitment goals ensuring they are honest, fair and accurate.
- Ensure effective employee relations practices are followed. These include using behavioral interviewing, supporting all in-house training, maintaining professional supervision of all employees, scheduling hours in a fair and equitable manner following seniority guidelines, evaluating performance on a timely basis, and following all progressive discipline and documentation guidelines.

EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE:
- An undergraduate business degree or MBA, with an emphasis on Marketing preferred.
- Extensive experience in developing business strategies and marketing plans.
- Possess a strong track record in the positioning and marketing of a retail brand.
