Job Overview:
A meat wrapper is responsible for unloading products from trucks, organizing meat items in the cooler and freezer, dating, weighing, packaging, and displaying products, as well as stocking items on racks and shelves. They operate stock dollies, grinding machines, slicers, scales, mechanical price marking devices, and use knives and case cutters. Typically, they work shifts of up to 8 hours a day, performing basic arithmetic operations. The job requires lifting and stacking up to 50 pounds and reaching to stock items on shelves up to 6 feet high. They also work in refrigerated areas, including the cutting room, cooler, and freezer, with temperatures ranging from 0 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Their duties include weighing and wrapping various meat products such as steaks, ground meat, roasts, lamb, veal, and pork. They assist customers with order selection and suggestive selling. They check in vendors, log spoilage and sales, maintain product freshness, stock pre-packaged meat items, rotate inventory, check code dates, and perform cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and case cleaning.
