Mental Health Resource Center is a not-for-profit Florida corporation that provides a wide range of mental health and behavioral health care services to the community such as 24-hour emergency services, inpatient psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and adults as well as outpatient services such as medication management, case management, and counseling.

Job Summary
The Client Engagement Specialist serves as the welcoming and supportive first point of contact for individuals accessing MHRC’s Comprehensive Services Centers (CSCs). This role ensures timely, person-centered care by facilitating essential pre-appointment activities that enable effective engagement with providers. Key responsibilities include conducting initial screenings, updating client information, completing state-required assessments, obtaining and documenting vital signs, and evaluating health-related social needs to guide treatment planning.

Through compassionate and efficient service delivery, this role enhances client engagement, reinforces recovery-oriented support systems, and empowers individuals to achieve stability and long-term wellness on their recovery journey. The Client Engagement Specialist collaborates with other MHRC staff to transition clients smoothly to appropriate care pathways.

Responsibilities 
  • Client Engagement Services
    • Provides a welcoming, person-centered environment as the first point of contact for individuals accessing CSC services.
    • Guides individuals through pre-enrollment or pre-appointment activities, ensuring accurate completion of forms and screenings, including the C-SSRS Self-Report Screening tool.
    • Conducts Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN) screenings and enters data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to inform treatment planning and referrals.
    • Obtains and documents vital signs, including BMI and tobacco screenings, and provides supportive counseling or referrals based on results.
  • Documentation and Regulatory Compliance
    • Registers new clients in the EHR, ensuring accurate entry of demographic, billing, and other required data such as gender identity, preferred pronouns, race and ethnicity, primary language, military and veteran status, income, and employment status.
    • Obtains and documents necessary client consents, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
    • Completes MHOMI documentation at required treatment intervals to meet key state reporting requirements.
  • Health Screenings and Referrals
    • Performs screenings for BMI, tobacco use, and other health indicators, documenting results in the EHR and initiating appropriate interventions.
    • Updates allergy and medication lists using real-time pharmacy data to ensure accurate client records and minimize the risk of medication interactions.
    • Provides tobacco cessation resources and supportive counseling, assisting individuals in accessing available resources as needed.
  • Care Coordination and Service Connection
    • Facilitates warm handoffs to internal and external service providers to ensure continuity of care and timely access to necessary resources.
    • Identifies Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) barriers such as transportation, access to identification, and housing to support client stability.
    • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth transitions between intake, treatment, and specialized services.
  • Crisis Prevention and Advocacy
    • Identifies individuals at high risk for suicide through screenings and provides immediate interventions, ensuring safe transitions and reducing unnecessary hospitalizations.
    •  Monitors for trauma, abuse, or neglect, initiating protective interventions and following appropriate reporting protocols.
    • Educates clients and their support systems on their rights and the benefits of person-centered care, fostering empowerment and engagement.
Qualifications
  • In order to be considered, a candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related Human Services field from an accredited university or college (a related Human Services field is defined as one in which 30 hours of course work includes the study of human behavior and development) required.
  • One year of experience working in human services or a mental health related field required. Experience working with adult individuals with mental illness preferred.
  • Proficiency in the RBHS/MHRC Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Patient Information System demonstrated within three months of employment.
  • Must complete competencies assigned to position as outlined in the Orientation Competency Form.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook and use of the Internet required.  
  • Strong communication skills are essential and this individual must be able to interact appropriately with internal and external customers, including patients, families, caregivers, community service providers, supervisory staff and other department professionals.
Position Details
This is a Full Time Days position: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
