Our school is proud to serve a mixed-income population, with 38% of our students, 30% of our teaching staff, and 53% of our Board of Directors identifying as multi-ethnic.
As a leader in early childhood education and social-emotional learning, we partner with Duquesne University to implement a comprehensive Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum across all classrooms. Our dedication to excellence has earned us the prestigious PA Keystone Stars 4A designation and NAEYC accreditation!

- Support Growth: Provide a nurturing space for children to develop their social, emotional, cognitive, and motor skills while encouraging independence.
- Collaborate and Innovate: Partner with fellow educators and administrators to continually improve teaching strategies, bringing fresh ideas and approaches to your classroom.
- Strengthen Bonds: Build meaningful relationships with children and their families, fostering a sense of trust, community, and belonging.
- Lead with Care: Facilitate child-centered activities that focus on the individual developmental needs of each child, guiding their growth with patience and understanding.
- Comply with Excellence: Ensure all DHS, Keystone STARS, and NAEYC guidelines are followed, maintaining the highest standards of safety and care.

Our Philosophy
Shady Lane is committed to the diversity, equity, and inclusion of its families and the community we serve by way of increased awareness and understanding, implemented practices, and respect for an individual's race, culture, religion, gender identity, and ability. We strive to provide equitable opportunities for each child through accessible resources and high-quality educational experiences, in hopes that each child in our care will become not only successful, but passionate, empathetic, and forward-thinking/progressive members of their community.
Shady Lane has developed and implemented a school-wide social emotional curriculum and tiered approach to behavioral health for all students committed to four core principles:
1/4
Diverse Methods
We focus on the diverse talents, experiences and methods developed by lead educators and team members.
2/4
Inclusion
Our holistic program not only includes but celebrates differences in race, socio-economic status, culture, religion and physical and cognitive ability.
3/4
Mutual Learning
Children learn the value of living, learning and playing in relationship with others. This approach supports future learning and growth.
4/4
The Arts
Direct interaction with the arts is used as an outlet for children to express their imagination and enhance their growth and development.
