Job Description
The Youth Development Specialist is responsible for leading and delivering high-quality educational and enrichment activities in the “Brownsville Seeds of Literacy OST Initiative.” This role focuses on fostering a positive learning environment that supports student development in literacy, STEM, and social-emotional skills.
Responsibilities and Duties
● Plan and implement structured activities and lessons aligned with the program curriculum, including literacy, STEM, arts, and character education.
● Supervise and mentor assigned Youth Development Assistant to ensure the effective delivery of activities.
● Manage classroom behavior using conscious discipline techniques and developmentally appropriate strategies.
● Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to parents, the Program Manager, and the Data Specialist as required.
● Maintain a safe and inclusive environment that respects the diversity of all students.
● Coordinate with the Youth Development Manager to adapt activities based on student needs and program goals.
Qualifications/Requirements
● Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
● Strong leadership and organizational skills.
● Minimum two years of experience working with children in educational or recreational settings.
● Proficiency in delivering structured lessons and hands-on activities.
● Ability to build rapport with students and families.
