Position: Licensed Cosmetology Instructor
Location: Federal Medical Center, Carswell, TX
Employment Type: Contract (Full-Time)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM (with a 1-hour lunch break)
Compensation: Competitive and based on experience


Job Summary:
SOS Personnel is seeking a Licensed Cosmetology Instructor to provide classroom and hands-on vocational training to inmates at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell under the Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons. This position will be responsible for delivering an Advanced Occupational Training Program in cosmetology, preparing students for career opportunities upon reentry into society.

The instructor will work closely with the Supervisor of Education at the facility, ensuring compliance with Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) standards and meeting the 1,000-hour program requirements.


Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver a structured cosmetology training program covering theory and practical instruction.
  • Teach state-mandated cosmetology curriculum, including state laws & regulations, professional ethics, chemistry, first aid, electricity, infection control, and job readiness skills.
  • Provide 80% hands-on training and 20% classroom instruction in compliance with state certification guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain lesson plans, student progress reports, attendance records, and supply inventory logs.
  • Instruct students in live work and on-the-job training using the latest industry tools and techniques.
  • Conduct assessments, evaluations, and final examinations to measure student competency.
  • Adhere to institutional security protocols, ensuring compliance with all prison regulations.
  • Report student progress and any behavioral concerns to the Supervisor of Education.
  • Participate in program updates, curriculum modifications, and accreditation compliance efforts.


Qualifications:
  • Active Texas Cosmetology Instructor License (Required).
  • Vocational Certification in Cosmetology from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of instructional experience in a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of the 1,000-hour state-approved curriculum for cosmetology programs.
  • Experience teaching adult learners and using diverse instructional techniques.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work in a correctional facility setting, maintaining professionalism and adhering to security protocols.
  • Prior experience working with reentry or vocational training programs is a plus.
