Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Driver to join our team! As a Driver, you will be responsible for the safe operation of the our vans and trucks while adhering to a strict schedule and ensuring your animals' well-being. The ideal candidate has experience operating large vehicles. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is NOT required. Must have an impeccable driving record, high safety standards, and enjoy being around animals.

Responsibilities
- Pick up and drop off animals at designated veterinary clinics.
- Drop off animals to rescue destinations (could be outside of the state of Alabama).
- Drive animals to and from shelter locations (we have one in Tuscaloosa and one in Northport).
- Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations
- Conduct regular vehicle safety inspections and report any maintenance or repair issues promptly.
- Assist animals with boarding and exiting the vehicles in a safe manner.
- Engage with animals in a friendly manner.
- Cleaning of cages in vehicle after use of vehicle.
Qualifications
- Excellent driving record.
- Must be at least 19 years of age or older.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to follow GPS directions.
- Although we can be flexible with days worked, times of veterinary drop off and pickups are subject to the veterinary clinic, and we must be flexible with them.
- Must enjoy interacting with animals and not be afraid of them.
- Ability to handle large dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens.
Vet pick up and drop schedules vary but typically are as follows.
Pick up animals from the shelter at 6:30 am. Drop off at vet clinics by 7 or 7:30 (depends on the day).
In the afternoon, pick up animals from vet clinics anywhere between 3 pm and 5 pm. Take them back to the shelter.
20-25 hours per week.

About TMAS
Metro Animal Shelter is a 501c3 non-profit organization that opened its doors in July, 1994. We are funded by the City of Tuscaloosa, City of Northport, and Tuscaloosa County Commission. Along with those funds, we receive donations which are tax-deductible, redemption and adoption fees. We receive animals from both animal control and citizens.
Our mission is to provide resources, programs, and information needed to build a more humane community that values animals and promotes compassion and kindness towards them, embraces responsible pet ownership, and promotes the animal/human bond.
