Catawba Valley Engineering & Testing (CVET) is looking for a Geotechnical Drilling Assistant. This position will assist the driller/drill team with performing services related to Geotechnical Subsurface drilling into the earth to evaluate soil types and strength characteristics.
Duties:
- Complete accurate and detailed boring logs and update existing logs as needed
- Perform manual labor by assembling, operating, and disassembling equipment
- Communicate daily with the driller and department manager
- Clean trucks and drill rigs
- Prepare equipment for upcoming projects
Requirements:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to follow directions from others and complete tasks as assigned
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence, and memos
Qualified candidates may be exposed to adverse conditions including extreme hot/cold temperatures, wet/humid conditions, and noisy conditions/environments requiring personal protection equipment (provided by CVET). Candidates must be physically able to lift up to 100 pounds during various work activities.
Qualified candidates must be available to work varied hours as well as be available for overtime as needed.
Preferred candidates should have prior experience as a drilling assistant, field/engineering technician, construction, or related experience. In addition, familiar with construction materials testing (CMT), geotechnical, and drilling.

Compensation: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
