Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) – Ortho/Neuro Unit to provide specialized care for patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions. This role involves managing post-surgical recovery, pain management, mobility assistance, and neurological monitoring while collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical assessment skills, experience with post-operative and neurological patient care, and a commitment to patient-centered nursing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care to individuals recovering from orthopedic surgeries (e.g., joint replacements, spinal surgeries, fractures) and neurological conditions (e.g., strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries).
- Perform comprehensive neurological assessments, including monitoring for changes in level of consciousness, motor function, and sensory responses.
- Manage pain control strategies, including medication administration, nerve blocks, and non-pharmacological interventions.
- Assist with patient mobility, ambulation, and rehabilitation in collaboration with physical and occupational therapists.
- Monitor and assess for post-surgical complications, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), infections, and pressure ulcers.
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care, fall prevention, mobility techniques, and recovery expectations.
- Collaborate with surgeons, neurologists, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
- Ensure proper use of orthopedic devices (e.g., traction, braces, external fixation devices) and neurological monitoring equipment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient progress and interventions.
- Respond to medical emergencies, including stroke alerts, seizures, and post-surgical complications.
Job Qualifications
- Current Florida licensure as an RN.
- Current certification as American Heart Association ACLS BLS Healthcare Provider.
- Previous PCU experience preferred.
- Progressive Care national certification desired.
- Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
