Our client, a large construction organization, is seeking an Accountant with construction industry experience to serve as an Assistant Controller. This is an onsite full time employee position in Sacramento, CA. This is a fully benefitted position with our client.
Position Summary:
Our client in the commercial construction industry is seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to bridge the gap between office-based accounting operations and field teams. This position offers strong growth potential for candidates ready to step into a leadership role, even if they are not currently Assistant Controllers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as liaison between field operations and accounting to ensure accurate and timely information flow
- Oversee general ledger, budgeting, job costing, and financial reporting processes
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and deliver actionable insights to stakeholders
- Prepare and present financials in monthly division reviews
- Collaborate with leadership to establish and implement financial policies and controls
- Supervise and guide the job costing team
- Maintain strong relationships across departments and with executive stakeholders
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial construction finance/accounting
- Strong proficiency in job costing, general ledger management, budgeting, and financial reporting
- Demonstrated ability to work within multi-company environments, including acquired and startup entities
- High proficiency with Excel (testing will be part of the interview process)
- Clear communication and executive presentation skills
Nice to Have:
- Spanish language proficiency
- CPA License
- Experience with ERP systems, especially eCMS by Computer Guidance Corporation
Additional Notes:
- Candidates must have job costing experience at a granular level
- Field experience is a plus; this is not a purely office-based accounting role
- The client is open to candidates currently in senior accounting roles who are ready to move into an Assistant Controller position
- Candidates must be local to the greater Sacramento area as relocation is not offered
