Job Description:
The Street Outreach Worker will mediate conflicts within the Englewood community, when applicable. Further, the Street Outreach Worker will engage high-risk individuals in a variety of settings within the community (i.e. street corners, schools, parks, individuals home etc.). The Outreach Workers work schedule will begin in the afternoons, evening, or late nights. This is a part-time position; however, it is expected that the Street Outreach Worker be on call to respond to violence based on a rotating schedule.
Hours: Early Evenings or Nights
Qualifications of the Street Outreach Worker:
- Excellent communication skills
- Lived experience and ties to the Englewood community
- Willingness to be on call to response to mediate conflicts in the neighborhood
- Relates to and works well to others
- Passion for helping others
- Ability to solve problems, work in a collaborative team environment, use data to guide work
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Mediate conflicts between street groups or individuals harmed by violence
- Engage with high-risk individuals who are part of street organizations, crews, cliques and street networks
- Works with street organizations to prevent retaliatory violence
- Respond to critical incidents such as shootings
- Maintain an activity log outlining number of outreach activities conducted
- Make referrals for victim services
- Attend weekly collaborative meetings
- Attend scheduled job training course
Compensation: $20.00 per hour

WHAT’S IN THE NAME
The framework behind the name of our organization came from a sermon titled “A Knock At Midnight” preached by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.- which was later published in a book entitled, The Strength To Love. Being educated on the nuances of the civil rights movement for over 15 years, the one thing that stuck with one of our founders, Minister Johnny Banks Sr.

AKAM primarily focuses on providing direct services in the communities of Auburn Gresham, Englewood, West Englewood, and West Chatham. However, our services are also extended throughout the city and surrounding surburban areas.
