Conformal Coating Technician/Engineer – Arathane Specialist

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Technician or Engineer with deep expertise in conformal coating—specifically Arathane coatings—for printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA). This role is critical to establishing and scaling our conformal coating operations, Using both Automated Machine and Manual processes. The ideal candidate will recommend equipment, ensure process excellence and compliance, and uphold the highest quality standards in an ITAR-regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities

Process Development & Execution
- Develop, document, and execute manual conformal coating processes for PCBAs using Arathane materials, including masking, cleaning, mixing, and application (brush, spray, or drip)

- Establish and maintain process controls, work instructions, and operator training for both manual and automated operations.

Quality Assurance
- Inspect coated assemblies to ensure compliance with IPC-A-610, customer, and internal quality standards,

- Perform in-process and final inspections using UV lamps, microscopes, and other relevant tools1.

- Maintain complete production and quality documentation, including traceability records and process logs.

Equipment & Materials Management
- Recommend, specify, and maintain conformal coating equipment (manual and automated), spray booths, and curing ovens.

- Oversee the preparation and mixing of Arathane coatings per manufacturer specifications; ensure correct storage and handling of chemicals.

- Maintain and calibrate equipment, ensuring safe and optimal operation.

Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all processes and documentation meet ITAR and export compliance requirements.

- Enforce safety protocols for handling Arathane coatings, solvents, and related equipment.

- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 5S and ESD protocols.

Continuous Improvement
- Analyze process data, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to increase throughput, yield, and quality.

- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and production teams to optimize coating operations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience with conformal coating processes in electronics manufacturing, with a strong focus on Arathane materials.
- Proven experience in both manual and automated conformal coating applications (brush, spray, drip, selective coating systems).
- Deep knowledge of IPC-A-610 or equivalent electronics assembly standards.
- Experience working in ITAR-compliant manufacturing environments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for process and equipment issues.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and process specifications.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field.
- Experience specifying and commissioning automated conformal coating equipment.
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and manufacturing documentation practices.
- Prior experience with process scale-up in a contract manufacturing environment.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to work with chemicals and solvents in a ventilated environment using appropriate PPE.
- Manual dexterity for handling small components and precision tools.
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs as required.
