Position Summary
The Overhead Crane Technician is responsible for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of overhead cranes and related weight-handling equipment. This role ensures compliance with Navy and Marine Corps standards while maintaining a high level of service quality, efficiency, and technician development. The technician will perform independent inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs while coordinating with supervisors and customers to ensure successful service delivery.
 
Roles and Responsibilities
• Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company, industry, and government regulations.
• Maintain the integrity, safety, and reputation of the company.
• Professionally represent the company and communicate effectively with customers.
• Perform inspections, load tests, and preventive maintenance on weight-handling equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and structural crane components, including:
- Mechanical: Gears, wheel bearings, wire rope, hook blocks, brakes, driveshafts.
- Electrical: Festoons, pendants, wireless controllers, disconnects, fuses, runway 
electrification, control components, motors.
- Structural: End stops, structural member deformation, weld inspections, runway 
structure assessments.
• Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot crane system issues.
• Develop estimates for electrical, mechanical, and structural component-level repairs.
• Document inspection findings and repairs in compliance with company and industry standards.
• Understand crane terminology, components, and operation.
• Perform OSHA and NAVFAC P-307 inspections and ensure compliance with industry standards 
such as OSHA, ASME, ANSI, CMAA, MHIA, and EM-385.
• Maintain accountability for assigned equipment and tools.
• Continuously develop technical knowledge and obtain required certifications.
• Assist in training and mentoring Assistant Technicians.
 
Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of experience as an Overhead Crane Inspector, Service Technician, or a related field.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, and structural crane 
components.
• Strong understanding of OSHA, ASME, ANSI, CMAA, MHIA, and EM-385 safety and operational standards.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and structural drawings.
• Strong computer skills for reporting, documentation, and project tracking.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to work at heights up to 130 feet.
• Willingness to travel overnight as required.
• Ability to work independently. 
 
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of Navy and Marine Corps weight handling equipment programs.
• Experience with NAVFAC P-307 inspections and compliance.
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
• Level II NDT Inspector in magnetic particle and dye penetrant methods. 
• AWS certified welder. 
• Factory training in crane control systems.
• Licensed forklift and manlift operator.
Compensation: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
