Assistant Guide/Teacher - Toddler or Children's House (PreK to K)

Primary Responsibilities


Perform their duties faithfully, enthusiastically, and satisfactorily at CW during normal working hours on regularly scheduled school days, and at other times as specified below.


  • The Aide or Assistant Teacher agrees to devote full time and attention during normal working hours to their duties as an Aide or Assistant Teacher and staff member of CW.
  • Abide by all reasonable rules, regulations and policies promulgated by the CW Board of Directors and shall comply with all relevant statutes, regulations and ordinances of the state of Minnesota.
  • Adhere to all CW guidelines and standards, for the purpose of maintaining excellence and a high degree of professionalism.
  • Submit all employment onboarding and health forms required by CW and the state of Minnesota before the last day of the first 30 days of employment.
  • Respect the self, respect others, and respect the overall environment.

Administrative Responsibilities


  • Attend all required staff meetings and special events.
  • Maintain open communication with administration and colleagues. Voice concerns and seek help from administration in a timely and positive manner.
  • Offer leadership and mentorship to other staff members, including support with and follow up on goal setting and providing insightful and inspiring evaluations.

Maintain the Montessori Classroom environment


  • Assist in establishing and maintaining the Montessori classroom culture, paying particular attention to the needs of the students.
  • Prepares and maintains the environment, observes behaviors, models grace and courtesy, preserves and protects lessons, and assists in the development of independence.
  • Monitor the environment to make sure students aren’t overwhelmed and anxious.
  • Engage students within the classroom by interacting and thinking about what is happening around them.
  • Clean-up of the classroom by ensuring that it is always tidy.
  • Provide support to the Lead Guide
  • Carefully observes and keeps records on each student’s individual progression through the classroom, always being available to offer gentle guidance.
  • Assists individual students in performing activities initiated by the teachers in small groups.
  • Repeat what the Lead Guide said and re-explain each step of an assignment.
  • Supervise children in the hall, lunchroom, playground, and/or extended day programming.
  • Inform the Lead Guide of any classroom difficulties including discipline, health, equipment needs, repair, and maintenance.
  • Assist in preparation/production of instructional materials.
  • Work with the Lead Guide to develop classroom schedules and modify materials when necessary.
  • Assist Lead Guide in observing, recording, and charting behavior.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and plans.
  • Meet regularly with the Lead Guide to discuss goals for the class and individual students.
  • Share all information from parents with Lead Guide.
  • Assist in organizing field trips
  • Read aloud or listen to children read
  • Hand out papers and collect paperwork
  • Assist with supplementary work for advanced pupils
  • Supervise free play activities
  • Supports the students’ Individual Child Care Plans.
  • Promote independence but provide personal assistance to the child when needed.

Qualifications
  • Teacher qualified per Minnesota DHS
  • Classroom management skills
  • Experience in childcare or preschool settings
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with students and parents
  • Ability to create and implement lesson plans
  • Familiarity with early childhood education principles
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques
  • Understanding of childhood development and literacy education
Salary: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour

  • 4 Year Degree or AMI/AMS Certification(s) (preferred)
