Job Summary
The Mental Health Court Specialist works closely to ensure overall coordination of the interdisciplinary treatment of individuals participating in Duval County Mental Health Court. Close communication and collaboration will be maintained with the Mental Health Court Judge, Court staff, and treatment team with the goal of assisting individuals to reduce or eliminate incarceration and enhance independence, autonomy and quality of life.

- Completes screenings to determine eligibility for Mental Health Court. This includes gathering treatment history, communicating with attorneys, and direct face-to-face screening interviews with potential participants.
- Collects and records participant historical data on prior hospitalizations and incarcerations for the baseline period prior to entering Mental Health Court.
- Facilitates assessments of participants entering Mental Health Court and provides recommendations to the treatment team on needed level of care.
- Works with the Mental Health Court treatment team to establish a recommended treatment plan based on individual needs of each Mental Health Court participant.
- Compiles information on participant compliance with conditions of Mental Health Court participation and assures it is accurately communicated to and considered in team progress staffing, including preparation of case compliance and progress summaries for court status hearings.
- Attends and facilitates weekly Mental Health Court staffing and court hearings.
- Schedules and provides support to regular Mental Health Court team meetings to ensure continuity of services and supports, and to ensure the efficient operations of the Mental Health Court.
- Coordinates efforts to identify community resources and organizes efforts to provide a full continuum of needed services including mental health, substance abuse treatment, vocational services, housing options, healthcare, family services, community supports and ongoing recovery support services.
- Provides individual and group intervention services.
- Monitors treatment services provided to Mental Health Court participants and meets regularly with Mental Health Court treatment providers both within and outside the MHRC provider network to review services provided and progress in meeting Mental Health Court requirements.
- Assures the accuracy, completeness and confidentiality of clinical records.
Qualifications
- In order to be considered, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Criminal Justice or a related Human Services field from an accredited university or college (a related Human Services field is defined as one in which 30 hours of course work includes the study of human behavior and development) required.
- One year experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, substance abuse, or criminal justice system.
- Each member of the Mental Health Court team must meet MHRC/RBHS vehicle driver requirements, to include a valid Florida Driver's License, automobile insurance coverage equal to or exceeding 50,000/100,000/50,000 split limits, and no more than eight points on their license for any combination of violations.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in the MHRC Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Patient Information System demonstrated within three months of employment.
- Proficiency of Microsoft Office Programs and the use of the Internet.
- Each employee contributes to the completeness and confidentiality of clinical records by ensuring documentation, paperwork and system entries meet internal and external guidelines for content, accuracy and timeliness.

Mental Health Resource Center, Inc. (MHRC) is a nonprofit organization that provides a wide range of behavioral health and social services to the community. Included in MHRC’s service array are 24-hour emergency services and inpatient psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and adults. Outpatient services include medication management, care coordination, case management, intensive case management team services, counseling, psychosocial rehabilitation, an adult therapeutic family program, state hospital liaison services, mental health court, multidisciplinary forensic teams (MFT), jail-based diversion services, a Co-Responder Program with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Link-to-Life suicide prevention program, and services that assist individuals in obtaining benefits such as Social Security Income, Social Security Disability Income, Medicaid, food stamps, and housing. In addition, UF Health Jacksonville contracts with MHRC to manage the hospital’s adult inpatient psychiatric unit.
MHRC also operates eight Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) programs for adults with severe and persistent mental illness, located in Clearwater, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Kissimmee, Rockledge, Tampa, and Winter Haven, as well as a FACT Lite program providing Linking, Advocating, Treating, Transitioning, Empowering & Recovery Support (LATTERS) services in Jacksonville. The two FACT teams located in Jacksonville serve residents of Duval, Clay, and Nassau counties.
