Job Title: | PDI Technician
Reports To: | Assembly Manager
Summary:
The PDI Technician is responsible for performing thorough inspections and functional tests on pontoon boats prior to shipment. This role ensures that every unit meets company quality standards and customer expectations for safety, performance, and appearance.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed inspections of completed pontoon boats to verify structural, mechanical, and cosmetic quality.
- Conduct functional tests of electrical systems, engines, steering, fuel, and other boat components.
- Identify, document, and correct any defects, discrepancies, or adjustments needed before shipment.
- Complete checklists, inspection records, and quality documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with production and repair teams to address and resolve quality concerns.
- Follow company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection processes and reduce defects.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Inspection Accuracy Rate: Maintain a ≥ 98% accuracy rate on inspection checklists and documentation
- Defect Identification & Resolution Rate: Identify and resolve 100% of defects/discrepancies prior to shipment, with fewer than 2% of units returned/reworked due to missed issues.
- Timeliness of Inspections: Complete inspections and functional testing within company standard of unit completion, achieving an on-time inspection rate of ≥ 95%.

Competencies:
- Able to demonstrate precision and thoroughness in inspections, identifying structural, mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic issues to ensure boats meet quality and safety standards.
- Proven knowledge of marine systems, engines, and electrical components to conduct accurate functional testing and troubleshooting.
- Consistently adhere to company quality standards, safety procedures, and compliance requirements while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Ability to accurately complete inspection checklists, records, and reports in a timely manner, ensuring accountability and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
- Ability to work collaboratively with production, repair, and quality teams to resolve discrepancies, provide feedback, and contribute to process improvements.
Required education and experience:
- 3-5 years in a standard manufacturing environment or similar role.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, checklists, and technical documents.
Preferred education and experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Previous experience in boat manufacturing, marine service, or mechanical/electrical inspection preferred.
- Basic knowledge of marine systems, engines, and electrical components a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time during working hours for 8hrs or more.
- Ability to safely climb in and out of boats.
- Able to lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs.
Work environment:
- Standard manufacturing environment.
- Work is performed inside or outside year-round. There is exposure to dirt, dust, noise, equipment, vibrations, and seasonal weather conditions.
- All necessary PPE will be provided.
Travel Requirements:
- There is no travel required for this role.
