We are seeking Mam Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Mam is a rare Mayan language of Guatemala, often required for asylum and immigration interviews, making this role critical to mission success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Mam ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and official proceedings.
  • Interpret with accuracy, impartiality, and confidentiality in immigration and legal contexts.
  • Adhere to USCIS/DHS compliance standards and interpreter ethics.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Mam and English.
  • 2+ years of interpreting experience (immigration, community, or government preferred).
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong telephone communication skills; ability to remain accurate under pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance.
