We are seeking Lingala Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Lingala, spoken widely in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, and parts of Central Africa, is a rare African language often required in asylum and immigration proceedings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Lingala ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and official proceedings.
  • Interpret with accuracy, impartiality, and professionalism in immigration, legal, and administrative contexts.
  • Maintain confidentiality under USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Handle both scheduled and urgent/surge assignments.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Lingala and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, medical, community, or government preferred).
  • Knowledge of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
  • Strong telephone communication skills; ability to remain accurate under pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance.
