Overview
The Construction & Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of light to mid-sized construction and landscaping equipment. This includes compact machinery such as skid steers, mini excavators, trenchers, compactors, mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and other related machinery and tools. The mechanic ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support daily operations in construction projects and maintenance properties.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair small construction and landscape equipment, including both gas and diesel-powered machinery.
- Perform preventive maintenance and regular safety inspections on all types of compact and landscaping tools.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system issues.
- Service and replace defective parts such as engines, pumps, hydraulic hoses, belts, blades, and gearboxes.
- Sharpen and balance cutting blades and maintain proper calibration of mowing and trimming equipment.
- Test and calibrate repaired machinery to ensure proper performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records, including parts used and labor time.
- Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Assist with equipment setup, loading/unloading, and seasonal maintenance or storage.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, equipment operators, and vendors to minimize downtime.
- Follow all company safety policies and applicable environmental regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in small engine or heavy equipment repair preferred.
- 2–4 years of experience working with small construction, landscaping, or agricultural equipment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools.
- Experience servicing brands such as Bobcat, Kubota, Toro, Stihl, John Deere, Honda, or similar.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL or equipment operation certification a plus.

Work Environment
- Work performed in both shop and field settings, with regular exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
- May require lifting up to 75 lbs and standing or bending for extended periods.
- Overtime or weekend work may be required to meet operational needs or emergency repairs.
Compensation: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
