M365 Security Specialist- On-Site/ Public Trust

AET is seeking a M365 Security Specialist to work for a Government client based out of Washington, D.C. The Security Specialist provides technical security leadership across the IRS M365 environment, ensuring secure, compliant, and governed operation of all M365 services. This role supports the Contractor’s management approach by applying structured methodologies for performance tracking, risk mitigation, communication, and continuous improvement. This position ensures alignment with IRS security standards and oversees security-related tasks for the full M365 and AvePoint platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, monitor, and optimize security policies across M365, including Zero Trust, Conditional Access, DLP, identity governance, retention controls, and compliance frameworks.

  • Perform ongoing risk assessments, audit reviews, and system security evaluations across SharePoint, Teams, Exchange, OneDrive, Power Platform, Azure AD, Intune, and AvePoint.

  • Support IRS governance models to ensure accountability, transparency, and secure service delivery across all concurrent projects.

  • Manage permissions, retention schedules, compliance settings, auditing, and secure configuration baselines.

  • Develop security automations and reporting using PowerShell, Power BI, and M365 security tooling.

  • Ensure security compliance and readiness for all M365 modernization and Copilot/AI Builder implementations.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve M365 and AvePoint security-related issues.

  • Support communication and quality assurance processes required for contract compliance.

  • Collaborate with engineers, developers, architects, and IRS information security teams to ensure secure design and implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Currently obtain an Active Public Trust clearance. 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience supporting and securing M365 Cloud Suite in enterprise/government environments.

  • Extensive knowledge of M365 security, Azure AD, Intune, identity and access management, and compliance center capabilities.

  • Experience with Power Platform security and data governance models.

  • PowerShell scripting proficiency for automation and security operations.

  • Experience with Copilot for Power Apps, Power Automate, and AI Builder security and oversight considerations.

  • Strong understanding of SharePoint admin, permission models, DLP, and auditing.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills to convey complex security concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to maintain strong relationships with business units and stakeholders.

Compensation: $95,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
