Job Title: Retail Store Manager
Position Overview
The Retail Manager oversees the operations of our retail store, Earthtones Greenery, and it’s associated divisions (Wholesale and Design Build). This dual role involves managing plant cultivation, ensuring high-quality greenery stock, coordinating with landscaping teams, and driving retail sales to meet customer needs. The Director will lead greenery staff, manage inventory, and implement sustainable practices to support both residential projects and retail customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Greenery Operations: Establish and enforce quality standards for greenery stock, retail products and landscape installations to meet client and customer expectations. Oversee plant propagation, cultivation, and maintenance to ensure a consistent supply of healthy, high-quality plants for residential landscaping and retail sales.
- Retail Store Management: Manage the operations of the greenery retail store, including product displays, customer service, and sales strategies to maximize revenue and customer satisfaction. Ensure plant health through proper care practices, including watering, fertilization, pest control, and disease management, adhering to horticultural best practices.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and manage inventory for both nursery stock and retail products, ensuring availability for landscaping projects and retail customers while minimizing waste.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor nursery and retail associates, fostering a collaborative and customer-focused work environment.
- Retail Sales Strategy: Develop and execute sales strategies, including promotions, seasonal campaigns, and customer loyalty programs, to drive retail store performance.
- Budget Management: Prepare and manage budgets for nursery operations and retail store activities, optimizing costs for labor, materials, and equipment while maintaining quality.
- Supplier Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with suppliers for seeds, soil, fertilizers, retail products, and other materials to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure nursery and retail operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental, safety, and retail standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Botany, Plant Science, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or advanced training in nursery or retail management is a plus.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in nursery management or horticulture, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role. Experience in retail management or sales is highly desirable.
Preferred Skills
- Strong knowledge of plant propagation, cultivation, and care.
- Proven leadership and team management abilities for both nursery and retail teams.
- Excellent organizational, inventory, and retail sales management skills.
- Proficiency in nursery management software and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills for engaging with clients and retail customers.
- Certifications such as Certified Professional Horticulturist (CPH), ISA Certified Arborist, or retail management certifications are preferred.
- Detail-oriented, customer-focused, passionate about plants and retail, environmentally conscious, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Compensation: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
