Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Test/Product Sustaining Engineer is responsible for the design, development, qualification and support of manufacturing test systems for Convergent Dental products. Position includes high-level functions such as test planning, test equipment design and development of test software. The test engineer is required to acquire, document, review, and interpret product requirements and specifications. From these requirements, the engineer will design and develop the solution and produce an overall production test plan for the product. This role also provides support for sustaining all aspects of electronic design of our products, from start of sales through the entire life of the product. Candidate will apply strong and diverse skills in electronic circuits used in our products (examples, lasers, embedded micro-controllers, power supplies, high-speed digital electronics, and EMI). The position is set in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up like environment and will require work on a broad range of tasks.
Primary Responsibilities:
Product Sustaining Engineering
- Improve electrical design of products to improve quality and/or performance.
- Execute circuit changes driven by vendors (such as Part Change Notices / End of Life notices). Includes validation of similar components and/or circuit design changes.
- Perform root-cause analysis and corrective action of quality issues (such as field failures).
- Consult with Development Engineers across disciplines to understand products and solve problems.
- Assist manufacturing with issues (such as test yield issues).
- Participate in product cost reductions by looking for, and validating alternate parts and/or circuit topologies.
- Work with our PCB (printed circuit board) designers on circuit changes and critical layout issues
Manufacturing Test Engineering
- Participate in weekly team meetings related to operational objectives.
- Provide status reports to management to communicate work progress.
- Provide the NPI (new product introduction) team DFM (design for manufacturability) and DFT (design for testability) analysis of the product.
- Develop detailed product test strategies, methods, and plans to ensure new products meet their functional and performance requirements.
- Development of test systems and fixtures to support product manufacturing.
- Develop validation protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ) for test systems and manage their execution.
- Ability to compile, evaluate and prepare technical analysis of production test data.
Other
- Assist in investigation and disposition of non-conforming materials.
- Assist in the creation of rework instructions required for both repair of non-conforming materials and updates for new revisions of product.
- Provide technical support required to troubleshoot and repair both capital equipment and re-usable products.
- Assist manufacturing with issues (such as test yield issues).
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years related experience, Medical Device preferred
- Experience with product transfers and process documentation, preferably in a Medical Device setting
- Proficient in PCB design tools
- National Instruments LabVIEW-based programming experience including data collection.
- Ability to troubleshoot electronics assembly to the component level.
- Circuit design
- Use of lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzer etc.
- Ability to effectively communicate to Direct Labor personnel and Management

COMPENSATION RANGE DISCLOSURE:
The expected base salary for this role is $115,000 to $135,000 annually. This market-based range considers national averages and the Boston area. Actual pay will vary based on skills, experience, certifications (e.g., laser), geography and internal alignment.
