Project Overview:
The NYC Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) is leading a critical initiative to redesign the NYC Secure App along with a citywide campaign aimed at protecting residents from phone and online scams. With New Yorkers losing an estimated $6.5 billion annually to scams, this initiative will deliver a comprehensive, privacy-focused digital solution to prevent fraud, educate vulnerable populations, and provide support resources.
This project will integrate across multiple city programs including Cybersecurity, 311, and Digital Equity to establish a unified and scalable approach to resident protection.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a FAST Software Engineer to support the end-to-end technical execution of new features for the NYC Secure App (iOS & Android) and associated digital platforms. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building scalable, secure, and privacy-centric systems that integrate with existing NYC infrastructure, data services, and workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop high-quality, scalable, and production-ready code with proper documentation and testing
- Build secure, responsive web applications aligned with NYC’s digital architecture
- Design and collaborate on core logic for mobile applications (iOS & Android) focused on scam/spam protection
- Develop accessible, responsive frontend resource sites using the NYC Design System
- Integrate digital reporting systems with existing city intake and backend platforms
- Apply industry-standard security and privacy protocols to protect user data
- Conduct unit testing and ensure code quality in collaboration with engineering leads
- Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers in an Agile environment
- Participate in technical architecture discussions and contribute to solution design
- Adapt to new technologies or frameworks as needed to meet project goals
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or Application Developer
- Strong full-stack development experience with responsive web applications
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (product, design, engineering)
- Proficiency with Git-based version control workflows
- Experience with Agile/story-based tools (e.g., JIRA, Azure DevOps, Trello)
- Experience leading technical design and writing implementation plans
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with design system libraries
- Experience in mobile application development (iOS and/or Android)
- Knowledge of security best practices, encryption standards, and privacy-by-design principles
- Experience working with large-scale enterprise systems or legacy integrations
- Exposure to public-sector or large organizational environments
Additional Information:
- This is a fully onsite role based in Brooklyn, NY
- Overtime must be pre-approved by the project manager
- Candidates must be able to work within a highly collaborative, fast-paced Agile environment
Compensation: $70.00 per hour
