Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Awake Overnight is responsible for providing direct care, supervision, and support to an individual with autism and behavioral needs in a residential group home setting. This position ensures the health, safety, and well-being of the individual throughout overnight hours while maintaining a structured, calm, and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide continuous awake supervision during overnight hours to ensure safety and well-being
- Implement and follow Individual Support Plans (ISP) and Behavior Support Plans (BSP)
- Monitor for and appropriately respond to behavioral challenges, using approved de-escalation techniques
- Assist with nighttime routines, including hygiene, toileting, and sleep support as needed
- Conduct routine safety checks of the home and the individual throughout the shift
- Accurately document all observations, behaviors, incidents, and interventions in shift notes
- Administer medications as prescribed and in accordance with agency policy (if certified)
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment
- Communicate effectively with incoming staff regarding overnight events and concerns
- Follow all agency policies, state regulations, and confidentiality standards
Behavioral Support Expectations:
- Utilize positive behavior support strategies at all times
- Remain calm, patient, and consistent when responding to challenging behaviors
- Recognize triggers and early warning signs to prevent escalation
- Ensure dignity, respect, and person-centered care in all interactions
Bonus Skills
- Experience supporting individuals with Autism or developmental disabilities.
- Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Positive Behavior Supports (PBS), or trauma-informed care.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required, NADSP
- Experience working with individuals with autism and/or behavioral needs preferred
- Knowledge of behavior management and de-escalation techniques preferred
- Ability to stay awake, alert, and attentive for the entire overnight shift
- Strong observation, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to pass background checks and meet state requirements
