Project Manager – Commercial Construction & Facilities Services

MJZ Services is a growing commercial construction, facilities maintenance, and specialty services company supporting clients across a wide range of industries and project types.

Our business is different from a traditional general contractor. We manage everything from fast-moving service calls and small repairs to equipment replacements, renovations, capital projects, and larger commercial construction projects.

We are looking for a Project Manager who can grow with the company and ultimately take on increasingly larger and more complex projects.

Position Summary:
The Project Manager will be responsible for managing multiple customers and projects simultaneously, ranging from approximately $1,000 service and repair projects to $10,000–$20,000+ projects and increasingly larger commercial construction projects. This position requires someone who can operate in a fast-paced environment without losing organization, communication, financial control, or attention to detail.
You will coordinate customers, subcontractors, technicians, vendors, materials, schedules, proposals, change orders, documentation, and project closeout while following MJZ's established approval and communication procedures.

We are not necessarily looking for the candidate with the most years of experience.

Responsibilities

  •  Manage multiple active customers, projects, service calls, and work orders simultaneously. 
  •  Manage projects from initial request through estimating, scheduling, execution, billing, and closeout. 
  •  Coordinate subcontractors, technicians, vendors, equipment, materials, and deliveries. 
  •  Maintain regular and professional communication with customers. 
  •  Develop and maintain project schedules and priorities. 
  •  Track project costs, commitments, change orders, budgets, and profitability. 
  •  Identify potential problems before they become emergencies. 
  •  Respond effectively when unexpected field conditions or customer issues arise. 
  •  Obtain required approvals before authorizing additional work or expenditures. 
  •  Maintain accurate project documentation, photos, proposals, purchase orders, change orders, and customer correspondence. 
  •  Manage subcontractors and hold them accountable for schedule, quality, safety, and scope. 
  •  Review work performed in the field and ensure it meets MJZ and customer expectations. 
  •  Understand the difference between something that is urgent and something that is important. 
  •  Communicate problems upward rather than allowing issues to remain unresolved. 
  •  Look beyond the immediate scope of work and identify additional ways MJZ can help the customer. 
  •  Develop strong, long-term relationships with customers, subcontractors, and vendors. 
  •  Continuously improve your knowledge of commercial construction, facilities maintenance, estimating, project management, and field operations. 
The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership rather than making excuses and also:  
  •  Is highly organized but can adapt when priorities suddenly change. 
  •  Can manage numerous small projects without overlooking the details. 
  •  Can also develop the discipline required to manage increasingly larger construction projects. 
  •  Communicates proactively instead of waiting for someone to ask for an update. 
  •  Is comfortable delivering bad news when necessary. 
  •  Knows when to make a decision independently and when approval is required. 
  •  Is resourceful and looks for solutions before escalating a problem. 
  •  Treats customers professionally even during difficult situations. 
  •  Understands that solving a customer's problem sometimes requires looking beyond the original scope of work. 
  •  Can prioritize emergencies without allowing every request to become an emergency. 
  •  Wants feedback and actively works to improve. 
  •  Is comfortable being held accountable for results. 
  •  Wants responsibility and an opportunity to grow with a company. 
Experience
Commercial construction, facilities management, building maintenance, mechanical/electrical trades, general contracting, project management, or similar experience is preferred. However, relevant experience is only one factor in our hiring decision.

Candidates with less direct experience but exceptional organizational ability, communication skills, problem-solving ability, work ethic, and demonstrated ability to learn quickly are encouraged to apply.

Experience with project management software, construction documentation, estimating, scheduling, RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and cost tracking is beneficial.

A successful MJZ Project Manager becomes someone our customers trust to handle problems without needing constant supervision.

You should eventually be capable of managing multiple customers and dozens of simultaneous activities while maintaining control over:

Customer → Scope → Approval → Cost → Schedule → Execution → Documentation → Billing → Closeout

As you develop, the expectation is that you will progress into managing increasingly larger and more sophisticated commercial construction projects while maintaining the responsiveness and problem-solving mentality that differentiates MJZ.
