Position Summary
The ideal candidate is a visible leader who is comfortable coaching employees, resolving member concerns, supporting sales, enforcing standards, and stepping into any area of the club when needed. This position requires strong follow-through, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain a premium member experience in a busy, high-volume fitness environment.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Help lead, coach, and hold front-desk and membership team members accountable.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training new employees; assist with mentoring and developing the Manager in Training.
- Conduct meetings and communicate daily priorities, promotions, and operational updates.
- Monitor employee performance, attendance, appearance, and compliance with club policies.
- Provide real-time coaching and document performance concerns when necessary.
- Serve as manager on duty and provide leadership when the General Manager is unavailable.
- Support the club’s membership sales, revenue, and net-growth goals.
- Tour prospective members, explain membership options, and close membership sales.
- Coach employees on lead follow-up, tour quality, sales conversations, and closing techniques.
- Monitor leads, appointments, tours, new memberships, upgrades, and conversion rates.
- Assist with promotional campaigns, community outreach, referral initiatives, and special events.
- Identify opportunities to upgrade members into higher-level memberships and Recovery Lounge services.
- Build strong relationships with members and maintain a visible presence throughout the club.
- Respond promptly and professionally to member questions, complaints, and service concerns.
- Help resolve cancellation requests and identify appropriate retention solutions.
- Monitor member feedback and recommend improvements to the General Manager.
- Ensure employees consistently deliver a welcoming, knowledgeable, and professional experience.
- Support awareness and utilization of the Recovery Lounge and other club amenities.
- Complete opening, closing, and manager-on-duty responsibilities.
- Conduct regular club walks to inspect cleanliness, safety, equipment, lighting, supplies, and overall presentation.
- Coordinate with maintenance, housekeeping, vendors, and department leaders to resolve issues.
- Ensure daily checklists, incident reports, inventory logs, and other operational records are completed accurately.
- Assist with retail inventory, supply ordering, receiving, and loss prevention.
- Help ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, emergency protocols, and applicable regulations.
- Escalate equipment, facility, staffing, or member issues to the appropriate leader and follow through until resolved.
- Assist the General Manager with payroll review, scheduling, labor control, and expense management.
- Monitor past-due accounts and support approved collection and member-contact procedures.
- Help track key performance indicators, including membership growth, attrition, average membership revenue, lead conversion, retention, and ancillary revenue.
- Protect confidential employee, member, and business information.
- Prepare reports and provide updates on club performance as requested.
- Two or more years of leadership experience in fitness, hospitality, retail, sales, or another customer-focused environment preferred.
- Prior health-club management or membership-sales experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to coach employees and hold a team accountable.
- Strong sales, customer-service, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Organized, dependable, and capable of managing several priorities at once.
- Comfortable working with membership-management systems, CRM platforms, email, spreadsheets, and basic business reports.
- CPR/AED certification required within the company’s designated timeframe.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree preferred.
- Full-time position requiring a flexible schedule.
- Must be available for a combination of opening, closing, weekend, and holiday shifts based on club needs.
- Must be able to remain active and visible throughout the club for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds and assist with equipment or supply handling when necessary.
