Position Summary

Support NOAA’s national marine mammal health and stranding programs through scientific writing, data management, specimen tracking, database operations, and emergency response support. The role combines office-based program support with hands-on specimen and field-response activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and edit technical reports, memoranda, fact sheets, guidance, training materials, and web content.
  • Perform data QA/QC, user acceptance testing (UAT), and database management for marine mammal health and stranding systems.
  • Support MMHMAP and other marine mammal health database projects.
  • Manage data related to Unusual Mortality Events (UMEs) and emergency responses.
  • Maintain archival tissue/fluid specimens and specimen-tracking databases.
  • Support specimen inventory, processing, archiving, and shipment activities.
  • Assist with meetings, workshops, case reviews, and responder training.
  • Coordinate with stranding-network partners and other stakeholders.
Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree typically expected.
  • Experience with marine mammal health, wildlife health, stranding response, specimen management, or scientific data.
  • Experience with database management and data QA/QC.
  • Ability to support specimen inventory, processing, archiving, and shipping.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and obtain required credentials.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MMHSRP, UMEs, marine mammal pathology, stranding networks, or wildlife emergency response.
  • Experience with database testing/UAT, specimen tracking, or archival collections.

This is a remote position.

Compensation: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
