Why Join Modern Eyes?
At Modern Eyes, great eye care starts with kindness, trust, and truly listening. We are a friendly, local eyecare practice combining personalized care, modern technology, and independent eyewear.

You’ll be part of a supportive small team built on compassion, curiosity, and collaboration, with opportunities to develop your technical, styling, troubleshooting, and patient-care skills. We value growth and recognize reliability, skill development, and teamwork.

Position Summary
Working with the Optometrist and patient care team, the Optician guides patients from prescription to finished eyewear, including frame and lens selection, order management, dispensing, repairs, and troubleshooting.

Modern Eyes is not a high-pressure sales environment. We focus on education, trust, accuracy, and personalized recommendations. We are looking for a Massachusetts-licensed optician with a strong technical foundation, warm communication skills, attention to detail, and pride in their work. This role is well suited to an early-career optician who wants to take on greater responsibility over time.

This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position with a Tuesday–Saturday schedule. No Sundays, late evenings, or major holiday work.

Who Thrives in This Role
Someone compassionate, energetic, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and comfortable discussing eyewear, insurance, and fees will thrive. If you enjoy helping patients find frames and lenses they truly love, solving problems, and being part of a collaborative team, you'll truly shine.

Growth & Development
As you grow in the role, you’ll have opportunities to deepen your technical skills and participate in complex troubleshooting, frame selection, vendor relationships, inventory planning, and optical workflow improvements.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Welcome patients warmly and professionally
  • Assist with frame and lens selection, measurements, prescription verification, and patient education
  • Manage optical orders from tracking, receiving, quality control, and follow-up
  • Dispense, adjust, repair, and troubleshoot eyewear
  • Review fees, insurance benefits, balances, payments, and documentation accurately
  • Maintain frame inventory, contact lenses, and lab supplies
  • Use EMR systems, ordering platforms, office software, and phones
  • Assist with contact lens insertion/removal and hygiene training
  • Communicate with labs, vendors, and insurance plans
  • Maintain an organized optical, frame board, and lab area
  • Support patient flow, clinical, and administrative tasks as needed
Experience & Employment Requirements
  • Current Massachusetts optician’s license
  • Foundational experience with frame/lens selection, dispensing, adjustments, and repairs through licensed work, apprenticeship, or other optical experience
  • Strong communication, patient care, teamwork, and attention to detail
  • Comfort using technology and maintaining accurate documentation
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to work full-time, in person, Tuesday–Saturday
Preferred:
  • Approximately 0–3 years after Massachusetts licensure; newly licensed opticians with strong apprenticeship or optical experience are encouraged to apply
  • Experience with independent eyewear, premium or specialty lenses, and contact lens training
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology, EMR systems, ordering platforms, insurance, and claims
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Physical Requirements
With or without reasonable accommodation, this role involves using optical equipment and computer systems; performing close visual tasks and measurements; using fine motor skills for adjustments and repairs; moving throughout the office; occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds; and remaining attentive and professional.

Equal Opportunity Employer
Modern Eyes is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and make employment decisions based on qualifications, merit, and business needs. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
Compensation: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
