Controller — NetSuite Implementation & Multi-Unit Retail
Monmouth Cards · Remote (U.S.) · Full-time
About Monmouth Cards
Monmouth Cards is one of the fastest-growing specialty retailers in the trading card and collectibles category. We operate eleven stores across New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Arizona, a rapidly scaling e-commerce business, live commerce, and a growing events and vending operation.
The Role
This is a hands-on Controller role with an unusually clear mandate: own the NetSuite implementation and transition, then run a clean, timely close on it.
We are moving off QuickBooks. You will lead that migration end to end — chart of accounts design, data conversion, POS and e-commerce integrations, inventory and multi-location setup, and cutover. After go-live, you own the monthly close, the reporting package, and the financial infrastructure that supports both our store expansion and an eventual outside investment or transaction.
You will report to the COO/CFO and work directly with the CEO. This is a build role, not a maintenance role.
What You'll Do
NetSuite implementation
- Lead the QuickBooks-to-NetSuite migration, working with our implementation partner and internal team
- Design the chart of accounts, entity and location structure, and reporting segments for a multi-store, multi-channel retailer
- Own integrations: point of sale, Shopify, banking, payroll, and inventory
- Build inventory accounting that works for a business with high SKU velocity, trade-ins, consignment and grading
- Manage data conversion, parallel testing, cutover and post-go-live stabilization
Ongoing accounting and control (after go-live)
- Own the monthly close and deliver it on a predictable calendar
- Produce store-level P&Ls and channel-level reporting that operators actually use
- Own inventory accounting and reconciliation across stores, warehouse and e-commerce
- Manage cash, AP, AR, banking relationships and lender reporting
- Build the internal controls, documentation and audit trail a company our size needs
- Support diligence: prepare normalized financial statements and respond to investor and lender requests
- Partner with our outside CPA on tax and compliance
What We're Looking For
Required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a Controller or Assistant Controller role
- Deep, hands-on NetSuite experience — you have implemented it or led a migration to it, not just used it
- Multi-entity and multi-location accounting experience
- Strong inventory accounting background in a retail, e-commerce or distribution environment
- Demonstrated ability to own a monthly close independently and improve it
- Comfortable working in a company where processes are still being built
Strongly preferred
- CPA
- Experience in specialty retail, e-commerce, or consumer products
- Experience preparing a company for diligence, a financing, or a transaction
- Familiarity with retail POS systems and Shopify
Not required
- Knowledge of trading cards or collectibles. We will teach you the category.
Why This Role Is Interesting
- You own the system. You are not inheriting someone else's NetSuite build. You are designing it for a business that will double.
- Real scope. Eleven stores today, 20–25 within two years, four channels, multi-state operations.
- Direct access. You work with the COO/CFO and CEO, not four layers down.
- You will see the results of your work. Every store P&L, every channel report, every close — you build the picture the company runs on.
Details
Location: Remote within the United States. Occasional travel to our New Jersey headquarters for close cycles, planning and the NetSuite cutover.
Monmouth Cards is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
This is a remote position.
Compensation: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
Monmouth Cards is one of the fastest-growing names in trading cards and collectibles. We sell across multiple retail locations in NJ, CT, and MA, online through our own store and major marketplaces, and live every week through streaming — meeting collectors wherever they are in the hobby, from first packs to high-end slabs.
What sets us apart is how we operate. We move fast, sweat the details, and treat product knowledge and customer experience as the whole job, not an afterthought. Our team is made up of people who actually care about the hobby and bring real energy to every break, sale, and store visit.
We're at a stage where the work is varied, the pace is quick, and the people who lean in get to grow with us. If you want to be part of building something real in the card space — not just clock in — you'll fit right in here.
