Bilingual Paraprofessional Multilingual Learner Support

Priority Group Services NJ is hiring bilingual paraprofessionals to support multilingual learners across the South Orange-Maplewood School District. You will work alongside certified teachers to help students who are building English proficiency access grade-level instruction, and will serve as a translator between students, families, and school staff where needed.

This is a school-year position with consistent hours and a set daily schedule. You are employed by Priority Group Services NJ, not by the school district.

PAY AND SCHEDULE: $21.00 per hour. Up to 28 hours per week, regular school year. 2026-2027 school year, through June 30, 2027.

OPENINGS: 6 positions - Clinton School (2), Maplewood Middle School (2), Columbia High School (2).

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Provide one-on-one and small-group instructional support under the direction of a certified teacher. Serve as a translator for students, families, and school staff. Assist with classroom management and behavioral intervention plans, including collecting data. Support students' physical needs - dressing, toileting, diapering, mobility, and wheelchair transfers where required. Supervise students on the playground and assist with bus loading and unloading. Complete clerical tasks assigned by the classroom teacher. Maintain accurate daily progress records and keep all student information confidential. Report any incident of harassment, intimidation, or bullying to school administration immediately.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR THIS ROLE

Bilingual fluency required - Spanish strongly preferred; other second languages will be considered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

48 semester-hour college credits from a regionally accredited institution; 60 credits or an Associate's degree preferred. Currently enrolled students are eligible with 30 or more completed semester-hour credits. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Sufficient English proficiency to read and follow instructions. Working knowledge of the needs of children with disabilities and of appropriate special education classroom practice.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

All of the following must be complete before your first day. Priority Group Services NJ covers the cost of the background check. New Jersey State Police / FBI criminal history background check (N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.1). Pre-employment history review (P.L. 2018 c.5, N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.6). Pre-employment drug screening, with participation in random testing during employment. Current Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Test (TB test) result on file. Handle With Care verbal de-escalation and physical intervention certification.
