Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Freelance Quality Inspector to perform product, material, and workmanship inspections at supplier facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in quality control, manufacturing, or product inspection and be comfortable working independently while following detailed procedures and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct visual inspections to evaluate workmanship, damage, defects, and overall product condition.
- Inspect products and materials according to established procedures, specifications, and industry standards.
- Determine appropriate sample sizes and apply AQL requirements using ANSI Z1.4.
- Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, thread gauges, micrometers, and similar measuring tools.
- Conduct functional testing as applicable, including measurements, assembly checks, and operational evaluations.
- Verify packaging, labeling, quantities, and product identification.
- Sample and test materials as required.
- Document inspection results accurately and completely.
- Prepare and submit inspection reports and supporting documents, typically within 24 hours after completing an assignment.
- Identify discrepancies, process risks, defects, and opportunities for improvement.
- Communicate professionally with customers, suppliers, and on-site contacts.
- Work independently at supplier facilities and participate in group problem-solving activities.
- Lift and move items weighing at least 20 pounds as necessary.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience as a Quality Inspector or applicable manufacturing experience in a related industry.
- Quality-control or inspection experience, including:
- Inspecting products for damage or defects
- Sampling and testing materials
- Following inspection procedures and standards
- Experience with ANSI Z1.4 sample-size determination and AQL requirements. Training may be available.
- Strong report-writing and documentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to submit accurate documents and reports within specified deadlines, usually within 24 hours after job completion.
- Ability to work effectively in independent and group problem-solving situations.
- Strong customer-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently at supplier facilities.
- Ability to identify process risks and improvement opportunities.
- Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude when adapting to occasional disruptions and unexpected events.
- Ability to lift at least 20 pounds as needed.
- Flexible scheduling and availability for assigned inspections.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Quality Engineer certification or related quality credential.
- Experience with supplier inspections, manufacturing quality, material verification, or audit documentation.
- Familiarity with dimensional measuring tools, functional testing, packaging verification, and labeling audits.

Location: Must be able to travel around Raleigh, NC and nearby areas
Compensation: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
