Looking for a part-time 7D Driver position? Join our team!
On N On Community Child Care is hiring two part-time 7D Drivers / Driver Trainees for our student transportation program in Springfield, Massachusetts.
We welcome both experienced, certified Massachusetts 7D Drivers seeking part-time employment and qualified applicants interested in obtaining their 7D certification.
We are looking for dependable, responsible, and safety-conscious individuals who enjoy working with children and are committed to providing safe and reliable student transportation.
A current 7D certificate is NOT required to apply. Already certified? Great! Not certified yet? Qualified applicants may receive assistance through our 7D Driver Training Program.
What You'll Do
Student Transportation Responsibilities (Certified Drivers)
- Safely transport students between schools, program locations, and other authorized destinations.
- Follow assigned transportation routes and schedules.
- Maintain student safety and appropriate behavior during transportation.
- Assist children with safely entering and exiting the vehicle.
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Keep assigned vehicles clean and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Complete required transportation records and reports.
- Communicate transportation issues or student concerns to supervisors.
- Follow Massachusetts 7D transportation regulations and company safety procedures.
- Maintain all required driver qualifications and certifications.
Driver Trainee Responsibilities (Applicants Seeking Certification)
- Participate in the required Massachusetts 7D licensing and training process.
- Complete required medical examinations, documentation, and certification procedures.
- Learn assigned transportation routes, vehicle inspection procedures, and student safety requirements.
- Participate in driver orientation and other assigned training.
- Assist with authorized transportation-related tasks during the training period.
- Maintain accurate training records and communicate progress to supervisors.
- Follow company transportation policies and safety procedures.
Important: Driver Trainees may not transport students until they have obtained the required Massachusetts 7D certification and received company authorization.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must meet all applicable Massachusetts RMV 7D eligibility requirements.
- Valid Massachusetts driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Valid Massachusetts 7D School Pupil Transport Certificate OR willingness to obtain one.
- Must successfully complete applicable background checks, including the Massachusetts EEC Background Record Check (BRC).
- Ability to complete required licensing, medical examination, and training procedures, if not already certified.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children, families, and coworkers.
- Must be punctual, dependable, patient, and committed to student safety.
Previous experience in student transportation or working with children is preferred.
7D Licensing Assistance
Applicants without a Massachusetts 7D School Pupil Transport Certificate are welcome to apply.
The company may assist qualified candidates with obtaining certification, subject to completion of the 7D Driver Training Agreement.
Training assistance and reimbursement are subject to the signed agreement and company policy.
Applicants who already hold a valid 7D certificate are not required to participate in the trainee licensing process but must satisfy all applicable hiring and driver qualification requirements.
Schedule
- Part-time, Monday–Friday, approximately 25 hours per week.
- Morning and afternoon transportation shifts (split schedule).
- Specific working hours may vary based on transportation routes, training progress, program schedules, and site needs.
- Additional hours may be available during school vacations and summer programs.
Pay & Benefits
$19.00 per hour
