Our mission is to bring affordable, accessible, and engaging educational opportunities into our neighborhoods. Through hands-on learning, creativity, and community integration, we aim to connect people of all abilities and backgrounds.

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable 3D Printing Instructor to introduce children, teens, and community members to the exciting world of 3D design, modeling, and printing.

Position Overview

The 3D Printing Instructor will develop and lead interactive, beginner-friendly classes that teach participants how to transform creative ideas into physical objects using 3D printing technology.

This is an opportunity for a creative educator, maker, engineer, or 3D printing enthusiast to build a community-based educational program while earning revenue from classes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach engaging, age-appropriate 3D printing classes.

  • Introduce students to 3D modeling software such as Tinkercad, Fusion 360, or Blender.

  • Teach students how to prepare, slice, and print 3D models.

  • Demonstrate safe operation and maintenance of 3D printers.

  • Guide students through hands-on projects, including toys, prototypes, household items, and creative designs.

  • Adapt instruction for different learning styles, abilities, and experience levels.

  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Assist with curriculum planning, equipment recommendations, and class scheduling.

  • Collaborate with HG Discover staff on student enrollment and program development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical experience operating FDM 3D printers, including Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa, or similar machines.

  • Knowledge of 3D modeling and slicing software.

  • Experience teaching, mentoring, coaching, or working with children.

  • Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to develop beginner-friendly, project-based lessons.

  • Familiarity with printer troubleshooting, filament selection, and basic maintenance.

  • Commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and community education.

A college degree is not required. Self-taught makers, hobbyists, educators, engineering students, and experienced 3D printing enthusiasts are encouraged to apply.

Instructor Partnership & Compensation

HG Discover is developing a flexible instructor partnership model that allows qualified instructors to offer classes through our community learning program.

Depending on the agreed arrangement, instructors may receive 60%–70% of eligible class revenue, with the remaining portion supporting facility use, administration, outreach, and program operations.

Final compensation terms, equipment responsibilities, and class schedules will be established through a written instructor/facility agreement.
